It begins - "Abortion and Men"

Back in November, the Students for Life group brought in a speaker named Theo Purington. This guy is a posterboy for "post-abortive men." He actually used that phrase, by the way. (LOL WHAT THE FUCK.)

I decided to do a silent protest of their event. I brought 14 signs with me (yeah, like a Bob Dylan music video), and here's what they said:

Hello. I'm pro-woman, pro-child, pro-choice.
A fetus is not a child.
A woman is not an incubator.
A fetus is not a fully-formed sentient person. A woman is.
Trust women. Women deserve choice.
If you wanted your girlfriend to stay pregnant against her will, then you never really respected her.
Keep your religion out of my uterus.
If you cut off my reproductive choice, can I cut off yours?
Theo Purington will never be pregnant. He has no idea.
I believe in bodily autonomy.
Crisis Pregnancy Centers LIE to women.
Without safe & legal abortion, women DIE.
No forced pregnancies.

I got a lot of dirty looks from *bump-hairs. :)

Oh, and I stayed throughout the entire presentation, and it was a lot worse than I thought it would be! Several times, Dr. Rourke moved in front of me to try to block my signs. Aaaaand I just moved again.

Let me tell you a little bit about Theo. Here's his facebook page for one thing. Please note the absolutely ridiculous fan pages he subscribes to! Before facebook switched to new privacy settings, it showed some of the groups he belonged to, which included a group called JESUS and a group called I'm a CHRISTian. Congratulations, you are insane.

More about Theo and his little presentation: APPARENTLY, his girlfriend decided to have an abortion and he couldn't handle it. I find his story hard to believe and wouldn't be surprised if he made it all up so he could rationalize his involvement as a man in the anti-choice 'movement.' I don't see how any self-respecting woman would date such an insane puritanical misogynist. All he cares about is spreading his seed. He is also against abortion in cases of RAPE.

If his story is true, he was being an extremely manipulative son of a dick. First, he took his girlfriend to a Crisis Pregnancy Center. Then, when she finally decided to stop listening to his crap, she made an appointment to get an abortion. He called and harrassed the clinic and they actually threated to call the police on him if he tried to interfere. He called around various law offices, asking if he had any "rights as a father" and of course, everyone he called basically told him he was being ridiculous. When he realized he couldn't do anything to abuse & control his girlfriend's body, he decided for one last bathetic, melodramatic act. He got down on his knees and begged and pleaded with her. Then, he kissed her stomach so he could "kiss his child goodbye." Sickening. Imagine how she must have felt with that wheedling theocrat at her feet.

Currently, he runs a crisis pregnancy center, counsels women outside of abortion clinics (read: HARRASSES THEM), and runs a resort for "post-abortive men." Again, I say, WTF.

Theo Purington, you are a self-righteous pig and I know your game.
