Pennsylvania Sucks and other tidbits

In lieu of an essay-style blog post this evening, I bring you a list of random tidbits which should be of interest:

  • Pennsylvania sucks. Yes, I voted in the midterm elections and it did not go over well. After Pat Toomey and Tom Corbett were elected, PA has now officially become Alabama II.

I think it's pretty self-explanatory why I can't stand Toomey. He's one of those pseudo-libertarian, rabidly anti-choice/pro-gun nuts. He has said that he wants to put abortion providers in jail. I can honestly say that I do not feel safe with him as PA senator. At all.

As for Corbett, I think he's starting to show signs of dementia or Alzheimer's. He's paranoid and obsessive, as evidenced by this CREEPY fucking Orwellian radio ad (there was also a TV ad with a similar magnitude of creepiness). Yes, Tom Corbett - as attorney general - was behind this shit. Another rightwing nutcase. Once again, I feel very uneasy with this guy as governor.

  • Remember my entry about the Tea Party and Racism? Well, incidentally, the NAACP wrote a very comprehensive ~90 page report on those two subjects. It's called Tea Party Nationalism and it is a MUST READ!

  • Recently, Rachel Maddow narrated an hour long documentary about the assassination of Dr. Tiller. All of the parts in a continuous playlist are now available on Youtube.
A grand jury is now in the process of investigating whether Scott Roeder was really a "lone wolf" or not. There is already a lot of evidence to support that there was a conspiracy to murder Dr. Tiller, and that there is still a conspiracy to target other abortion providers in this country. I hope that justice will be served and that we will see the members of domestic terrorist organizations (Operation Rescue/Operation Save America/Army of God) in prison for life sentences.

  • The Human Rights Campaign is working to expose the homophobia and hateful intolerance of NOM (National Organization for Marriage). Share NOM Exposed with everyone!

  • I attended the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Keep Fear Alive on the mall in DC. It was sort of a disaster in my case (due to technical and travel issues) so I was only at the rally for the last 40 minutes. I didn't really get to hear or see anything on the stage, but saw tons of smart people, great signs, and hilarious costumes! And anyway, it was nice to be back in the DC area, since that's where I lived for the first 16 years of my life. I missed the diversity of people, food, and things to do/see.

Several people stopped me to take pictures of my sign, which read:

    I believe:

    in reproductive CHOICE
in gender EQUALITY (marriage for all)
    in racial DIVERSITY
    in religious FREEDOM
    in social JUSTICE & PEACE
